Alan Sailer was an obscure photographer working in his garage in Camarillo, United States, shooting stuff with a pellet rifle and photographing the results with a home built flash. Then in early 2009, someone linked one of his pictures to a social networking site. Soon he was flooded with emails from magazines and newspapers pressing for interviews.

“Now I'm a slightly less obscure photographer,” says Alan Sailer.

Rania Matar derived inspiration for this project from her own teenage daughter and watching her grow from girlhood into adulthood. “As I observed her and her girlfriends, I became fascinated with the transformation taking place, with the adult personality shaping up, with an insecurity and a self-consciousness that are now replacing the carefree world the girls had lived in so far”, she writes.

Sixty year old Michael creates realistic 1/24 scale models of an imaginary town from memories of his youth. His photos tell a story that takes you back to that time and place. “What started out as an exercise in model building and photography, ended up as a dream-like reconstruction of the town I grew up in. It's not an exact recreation, but it does capture the mood of my memories”, he says.
